FCS Extension programs aim to improve the quality of individual and family life through education, research, and outreach.
What is Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS)?
FCS stands for Family and Consumer Sciences Extension. FCS programming focus on building assets of individuals and families to address problems faced across the lifespan. Family and Consumer Sciences Extension emphasizes well-being with a focus on human development, parenting, resource management, nutrition, health and leadership development.
At the community level, FCS Extension prepares individuals for community and economic development and activity. Professionals in Family and Consumer Sciences Extension provide the tools to help individuals and families to develop resources for strengthening families and building community for an ever changing society.
Calloway County Family and Consumer Sciences Programs
Cooking Through the Calendar meets on the first Tuesday of the month at the Calloway County Public Library at 10:30AM. The food demonstration will coincide with the Nutrition Education Program Food + Nutrition Recipe Calendar. No reservations required, free!
Laugh and Learn is a hands-on program for parents and their preschool children to improve kindergarten readiness skills. Activities are more suited for 3-5 year-olds, however, younger siblings are welcome. Learning stations are set up for various modalities, fine motor, gross motor, cognitive skills, creativity, and quiet activities. Parents will work with their children to provide targeted developmental learning activities. Laugh and Learn meets at the Calloway County Public Library on the first Friday of the month at 10:00AM.
Second Saturday Sewing Studio meets in the Lee Furst Sewing Cabin (#1) from 9AM-11AM on the second Saturday of the month. The Calloway County Master Clothing Volunteers will be on hand to help students with the project for the month.
WITS Workout is currently held on the Wesley Living Campus. WITS Workout is a brain health program with 2 main goals - to provide purposeful opportunities for older adults to engage intellectually and to increase their socialization through ongoing group participation. Pen and paper activities along with group discussions are designed to be novel, fun and challenging.
Myrna Vazquez is the Calloway County Nutrition Educator. She works within the SNAP-Ed and EFNEP programs to deliver nutrition education and promote healthy lifestyle behaviors to limited-resource individuals, families, and communities. These federally funded programs aim to improve dietary habits, food security, physical activity, and overall well-being of participants.
Homemaker Lessons are held at 4 regional hubs. The counties of Graves, Hickman, Marshall and McCracken host the Homemaker Lesson Leader training. Training for 2025-2026 is listed below. Reservations at the selected hub for training are required.

What is KEHA?
The Kentucky Extension Homemakers Association (KEHA) is a volunteer organization that works to improve the quality of life for families and communities through leadership development, volunteer service, and education.
Who can join?
The Kentucky Extension Homemakers Association (KEHA) is an educational program of the Kentucky Cooperative Extension, serves all people regardless of economic or social status and will not discriminate regardless of race, color, ethnic origin, national origin, creed, religion, political belief, sex, gender expression, pregnancy, marital status, genetic information, age, veteran status, or physical or mental disability. Any full or part-time homemaker, male or female, rural or urban, teenager or senior citizen and in-between, may belong to KEHA.
As a member of Extension Homemakers, you will become a vital part of your community by getting involved in public service and participation in citizenship programs. Membership benefits include:

There are currently 7 Homemaker Clubs in Calloway County. Listed below are the clubs, dates, and times they generally meet (subject to change).
Meets the 1st Saturday of the month at 1:00PM in the Meeting Hall on the Extension Campus
Meets the 4th Tuesday of the month at 6:30PM at various locations.
Meets the 4th Thursday of the month at 11:00AM in the Meeting Hall on the Extension Campus.
Meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:30PM in the Meeting Hall on the Extension Campus.
Meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month. Social hour is at 5:00PM and the meeting at 6:00PM in the Meeting Hall on the Extension Campus.
Meets the 1st Saturday of the month at 9:00AM at the Range or the Meeting Hall on the Extension Campus.
Meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 11:00AM at various locations.
Mailbox membership is available for those who cannot attend meetings in person. Information will be mailed to the members.
